The Birth Book by Dr. Sears
Product Rating: Product Review (submitted on May 3, 2012):I was scared of birth, so I wanted a book that was not going to terrify me with horror stories (like "What to Expect When You're Expecting"). This book was amazing. I learned a lot of essential things, and the language used was positive and reassuring.
The authors definitely have the mentality that birth is an amazing experience that every woman CAN do WITHOUT interventions. I loved that. The only thing I didn't read until after was the section at the end of birth stories (even though they are mostly positive, I didn't want any negative thoughts in my mind when I was in labour). And my only problem with that section was that the authors give their opinions of each birth after each story and in one they seemed critical of one mother's reliance on interventions (which to me is a personal choice).
I consider this book an essential read for all pregnant women who are looking for information and empowerment. Good luck on your pregnancies (btw my son's birth ended up being fantastic, at home, and intervention-free).
