Being an all-natural fiber, wool is completely breathable and helps your maintain a normal body temperature - your baby is never overheated, hot or sweaty with a wool pad underneath. A wool pad will responds to your infant's fluctuating body temperature, so no matter what the season, baby stays comfortable! We absolutely love wool protectors - their uses are endless.
All natural, un-dyed, untreated wool changing pads are the healthiest option for our environment and your little one. These wool puddle pads are individually hand-made and hand-felted right here in Canada. Each pad is hand-felted, one at a time, with the same amount of wool by weight and when you first see the thick and thirsty nature of these pads, you won't be disappointed. The wool for these pads is never bleached, dyed or washed in chemicals - it is first carded, washed in a mild soap followed by a vinegar bath and rinse before felting. To maintain the high quality of material and the integrity of the wool, it is not overly processed. As such is the case, small inclusions such as grass and organic matter (plant fragments, hay) are still present in the wool, which do not in any way hinder or affect the performance. Industrial wool mills will use harsh chemicals to dissolve this organic debris. These wool changing pads are as natural as you can get!
*Natural wool puddle pads are water-resistant - not waterproof. Wool puddle pads are designed to absorb moisture and resist leakage. However, any very wet puddle pads should be removed as quickly as possible to ensure maximum protection for your mattress/floors.
Pure, Felted, Un-dyed, Untreated, Unprocessed Wool
Wool has natural antibacterial properties and is one of the most absorbent materials available. In fact, wool can absorb more than 30% of it's own weight in liquid before it even begins to feel wet! Felted, un-dyed, untreated wool is even more wonderful as there are no bleaches, chemicals or dyes to hinder or effect these inherently natural properties of wool.
Due to the individual felting process, there will be slight size and shape discrepancies from one pad to the next. Once the washing and felting process is completed, the wool pads are left in their most natural state, and not trimmed to any specific size specification. As a direct result of this hand-felting process, your wool puddle pad may not be completely straight or even. This gives each pad their own special shape and character. These are unique premium quality wool pads - you'll find many uses for them in your home!
Wool Protectors are your Natural Choice!
Terance Peters from Burnaby, British Columbia (Canada) asks us...
Q: How do you wash Wool Changing Pads?
A: Wool is incredibly absorbent and naturally antibacterial. Wool will not harbor bacteria, nor will it retain odors. What this means is that you won't need to wash these protectors every time they get wet. All you need to do is hang them to air out, and once dry, use them again. Depending on the amount of use your protector goes through, and how often it is wet, you may only need to wash your pad every 2-4 weeks. These wool pads are machine washable. Just use a gentle cycle and cold water when washing your wool puddle pad, and hang to dry. Our preferred method of washing is to "soak" you protector in a lanolin-rich wash and hang it to dry. Washing wool should take all of about 6 minutes (not including soaking time) - just fill the sink with lukewarm water and a lanolin rich soap (we suggest Eucalan Wool Wash) and leave your wool changing pad to soak for 10 minutes. If you use a no rinse soap such as Eucalan, you won't even need to rinse out your pad! When you come back to the protector, squeeze out as much water as you can, and roll it in a towel to absorb some more. Then just hang to dry! After much use, if you find the "waterproofness" of your wool pad is starting to diminish, you can easily re-lanolize your cover by melting some pure lanolin and adding it to one of your washes. Your wool changing pad will be just like new again!
