The Klean Kanteen sippy cup is a non-leaching stainless steel sippy cup. Feel comfortable knowing that your toddler is drinking safe, clean, pure water without the risk of leaching harmful chemicals as found in many plastic sippy cup alternatives. Many studies link toxins such as Bisphenol A (BPA) leaching from our plastic bottles during regular use. As parents ourselves, we know how long a sippy cup may sit with water! Stainless steel sippy cups by Klean Kanteen are your healthier alternative to plastics. Klean Kanteen is Bisphenol A Free!
Stainless steel Klean Kanteens outlast their plastic counterparts and drinking water from a stainless steel Klean Kanteen tastes clean and odors free, unlike drinking from plastic which often makes water smell and taste undesirable. Weighing only 4 ounces and designed especially for small hands, this stainless steel sippy cup is compact and convenient for carrying in a purse or diaper bag.
All caps and lids fit all sizes of Klean Kanteens so this is a bottle that can grow with your child. If your little one has outgrown the sippy lid replacements are available. They can easily upgrade to a sports cap or stainless steel flat cap. The base of the sippy cup is 2 3/4" wide and will fit in a standard auto/bike cup holder.
Klean Kanteen will GROW with your child! Alternate lids available.
Stainless Steel Sippy Cups - a safer choice for baby!
In her groundbreaking book about endocrine disrupters, Theo Colborn, author of the Our Stolen Future, writes about the harms of BPA on the reproductive organs of mice and rats, and how this problem chemical can bring about changes in tissue that resemble the early-stage breast cancer, among other effects. She maintains that the most at risk individuals are people with "developing endocrine systems": pregnant women and newborns, followed closely by young children and women who might get pregnant.
The Klean Kanteen sippy cup alternative to plastic also gets the thumbs up from the Sierra Club where they suggest switching "to polypropylene, or avoiding plastic altogether and switching to glass or lightweight stainless steel containers" (Nov/Dec 2003). Mothering Magazine has named the Klean Kanteen Sippy Cup a "Cool Stuff" product in their July/August 2006 issue.
The Klean Kanteen Sippy Cup is showing up more and more in Canada, and we're proud to be one of the first retailers in Canada to be selling the Klean Kanteen Sippy Cup. Parents Canada magazine features the Klean Kanteen as a stainless steel alternative to plastic sippy cups for baby. We are so pleased to see that Canadian parents are taking a pro-active role in the health and safety of their little ones.
Something else to consider when choosing a sippy cup and/or water bottle alternative is the fact that plastic is not as sanitary as stainless steel, and that bacteria forms and grows rapidly in standard plastic water bottles. A study done at the University of Calgary, Alberta (Canada) and published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health concluded that alarmingly high levels of bacteria were found in our very own children's water bottles. Researchers collected 76 water bottles from elementary school students to conduct their study. More than 13% of the water bottles analyzed contained bacteria that "exceeded safety standards". This was bacteria found in the actual water of bottles our children were drinking directly. Klean Kanteen bottles are dishwasher safe and a much more sanitary option for our babies and children.
We also love the fact the Klean Kanteen water bottles are re-usable and 100% recyclable. This helps to reduce wasteful use-and-toss containers, consuming less over time. Here is an interesting report called Trashing the Oceans. Safer for baby AND better for the environment - you'll LOVE Klean Kanteen.
The coloured Klean Kanteens are painted, and just like anything that’s painted, it is possible to chip or scratch the paint with normal use. In particular, if you have a young child using the bottle, if they drop or bang it around, it is liable to scratch the finish. The coloured bottles are simply irresistible to most young children, however, and they tend to cherish their own water bottle regardless. To prolong the life of your paint, handwash your bottle and don’t use abrasive agents to clean it. Alternately, the stainless steel bottles are completely unfinished. The Brushed Stainless finish is the best choice for ultimate durability.
Nice size sippy Review by Charmaine

We got the stainless steel sippy for our 2 year old. The first day he used it, he managed to scuff up the outside pretty good, but it's still holding up. It doesn't seem to leak very much and it had a wide enough opening to put in an ice cube. (Posted on 6/18/10)Would you recommend this product to a friend? Yes
Great for older children, okay for babies Review by Mariko

This was the first sippy cup my daughter used at 6 months. She got the hang of the sippy spout fairly fast but it is a bit heavy so she needs us to help her but now at 9 months she can hold it if she is in a slight declined position. Handles would be a nice addition but without them she is learning to hold on just fine the older she gets. This would be perfect for a baby 12 months and older. Great but a little heavy for babies Review by Shelagh

I loved these as sippy cups for my youngest! They use Avent spouts, so you can easily replace them or buy softer/harder spouts depending on the age of your baby. The stainless steel doesn't get gross after a while the way plastic sippy cups do, and the mouth is wide enough to put ice cubes in, which is great for summer.Would you recommend this product to a friend? Without hesitation!
All Klean Kanteen lids fit all the sizes of their bottles, so you can easily upgrade to a sports cap as your child grows, or put the sippy cup lid on a larger size if you like. All the members of my family have Klean Kanteen bottles, they're really fantastic and hold up to abuse much better than other metal water bottles we've tried. They will end up with a few dents and scratches, especially if you have a toddler prone to tossing and/or dropping things, which tends to look worse on the coloured bottles than the plain steel.
The one drawback is that the stainless steel means they're a little heavy, especially for a kid under a year. I would have liked something a little smaller/lighter when my son was younger. (Posted on 6/30/10)
Love to use with Avent tops Review by CINDY

We have a Kleen Kanteen Sippy for my toddler. The greatest thing about these is that I could fit the Avent tops to it. That made it an easy switch for her.Would you recommend this product to a friend? Yes
They are heavy, though, and I wouldn't use in a stroller without a tether for this reason. Also I would like to see them in a smaller/shorter size for little hands! I think that would be perfection.
A note from the bynature.ca team: Our Toy Straps work well to attach the Klean Kanteen to a stroller - http://www.bynature.ca/pippalily-toy-strap.html (Posted on 1/3/11)
Great Product Review by LisaT79

I bought this sippy spout kanteen for my 1 year old daughter 3 years ago. I am STILL using the same kanteen, only now with a sports cap. I bought one for my son who is now 2 as well. Aside from replacing the spout for the sippy cup a few times the cups are still holding up for Kindergarten. They dint a bit on the bottom when they are dropped on cement or other hard surfaces and are a bit scratched up but are still going strong!
I love the fact that they are easily washed and if they are forgotten about in a bag for a few days, they do not mold. A simply swish of vinegar cleans them up as good as new inside as well if they need to be thoroughly cleaned. Well worth the money, you'll pay 5x that amount over the course of a few years in cheap plastic ones. (Posted on 8/22/12)
