A review of Snowstorm from Jillian:
I just recieved our games in the mail. I am not sure who is excited more, me or my daughter. I am so happy to have some cooperative games. I have used these games when teaching in the past and loved them. I just wanted to tell you, that I really believe that cooperation seems to be more instinctual than competition for children. They don't want to see others lose, and really young children don't even seem to understand winning and losing. I tried to play Candyland (a gift from friends) with my daughter, age 3 1/2. I explained the rules to her, and she always wanted to move my pieces if I was left behind and wanted the same courtesy done for her. When I explained that she wanted to win the game so that she could eat all of the candy in the castle, she quite candidly stated "Mom that doesn't seem fair that only one person gets to eat all of the candy, when we have all been trying to get to the castle." It felt strange to be teaching her to be competitive when she really didn't feel the need to be, and knew that these weren't actions that we valued in a positive light. But, I wanted her to have the necessary skills in following directions and playing games with others.
Now we can do each of those things and teach her about humanity. Thanks for making such thoughtful products.
