Using Allen's Detergent with Cloth Diapers
Allen's Cloth Diaper Detergent is very concentrated! One small bottle will go a looooong way. Each one quart bottle (32 fl. oz. or 946 mL), will wash approximately 128 loads of cloth diapers (32 standard loads of laundry) in a top-loading machine. If you're washing cloth diapers twice per week, this bottle should last you more than 6 months! Allens Naturally is an economical choice.
For top-loading machines: Start with a 1/2 of a capful (approximately 1 tablespoon, or .5 oz). If the diapers are not getting clean enough, increase your liquid slightly. Increase to no more than 2 tablespoons per load. If you have soft water, you should be able to use less. If you have hard water, you may need to use more.
For front-loading HE machines: Start with only 1 teaspoon or 1/4 of a capful (approximately .25oz) for each load. If the diapers are not getting clean enough, increase your liquid slightly. Increase to no more than 1 tablespoon per load.If you have soft water, you should be able to use less. If you have hard water, you may need to use more.
Orillia, Barrie, Muskoka Cloth Diaper Users
This is our specialty! We're very familiar with the water parents in this region are working with, and Allen's consistently remains the number one choice for parents. It ranks highest for getting cloth diapers clean, with no reaction to baby's skin.
Our reommendation for this area: top-loading machines use 1-2 tablespoons (.5oz-1oz) and front-loading machines use 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce). This will be something you'll need to play with, to get the right amount depending on your machine. Don't worry about bubbles with Allen's! You also don't want to use more than is necessary, simply for economics sake.
If you've purchased the Gallon size Bulk bottle (avaiable in our Orilla store only), each pump with the restrictor is about 1/4 of an ounce. This bottle should last 9-12 months if reserved for diaper laundry only. That's a great value!
Great cloth diaper detergent Review by Lorraine

We have tried many detergents with our cloth diapers (pocket diapers with hemp inserts as well as hemp fitteds) and this is one of the best out there. Absolutely no residue and we have had no issues with diaper 'stinkies'. You need only a tiny tiny bit to do the job so it is very economical too. Also, our daughter has very sensitive skin and she has not had any skin reactions to clothes or diapers washed in Allen's. (Posted on 7/1/10)Would you recommend this product to a friend? Great product! Review by Linds

We've been using Allen's for over a month now with our cloth diapers. Even with (almost) daily washes, Allen's doesn't build up, rinses out well and therefore hasn't caused any repelling. We used other diapering-specific detergents but had build-up and stinkies issues, so I highly recommend Allens. As noted previously, it's also very, very cost-efficient as you only have to use a small amount. I use a little over 1/2 an ounce for one load of diapers. Worth a try!! (Posted on 10/13/11)
