The Beco Butterfly Baby Carrier Built-In Insert
Style: Soft Structured Carrier
Age: Newborn to 50+ lbs.
Carrying Positions: Tummy to Tummy, Back Carrying
Origin: Made in the USA and China.
Important Features for Comfort & Safety
Most importantly, look for structured carriers that make use of back-packing technology which help in preventing strain on your neck, back and shoulders. Wider shoulder straps, padding in all the right places and a supportive waist belt help to distribute baby's weight to your hips and upper thighs for maximum comfort.
There is evidence available that suggests an infant’s weight should not rest entirely on the crotch region, and that the position for healthy development in a baby is in a semi-squat or seated position – the same position your baby would be resting in if you were carrying them in your arm’s naturally. There are structured baby carriers on the market today that do not place undue stress on a baby’s spine or hips, and are considered to provide developmentally appropriate support for an infant. This may be an important consideration for you, in your quest to find the best baby carrier for your needs.

Very disappointed Review by J.
Price Value Quality This carrier is impossible to put on without assistance, especially with an infant. It is also very bulky. With the infant insert it is hot, so it is definitely not a carrier for the summer months. I also find it hard on my back. Overall, I am really disappointed with this carrier and will be buying another brand. (Posted on 10/9/10)

Excellent carrier for walks Review by Lori
Price Value Quality The Beco Butterfly is a great carrier! Being a first-time mom, I wanted something that both my husband and I could share. It is easy to put on, and baby feels very snug once she is in correctly.

I like that you can adjust the waist, sides and shoulders easily. The infant insert is great for a newborn, as you can adjust the height of the insert so that their head is supported. The detachable hood is also a good feature when outside. The DVD that is included is also helpful in showing the different carries. Overall, a beautiful product and I would highly recommend! I definitely recommend this carrier to anyone who wants a soft seated-position carrier. Review by Stephanie
Price Value Quality We have used this carrier almost daily from our son's birth (July 2009) until today. I would swaddle him as an infant and easily slide him into the carrier. When he was older, and became more aware, he would get excited when I would put on the carrier. My husband also uses it regularly, expecially while walking the dog. We will use it until our son is too big, when shopping, running quick errands or going for small hikes.

The only difficulty is managing all the straps. Sometimes it takes a minute to figure out which way is up.
We tried other brands, but for tall people, this one was the best. I totally recommend it over the carriers with less flexible materials, and the commercially popular ones where your child's limbs dangle. (Posted on 7/28/10)

A great investment to allow babywearing from birth to toddler! Review by Jen
Price Value Quality I have used my fair share of baby carriers in the past, and before trying the Beco had not found anything that would go the distance in terms of usability for all ages and sizes. I decided to invest in a Beco with my third child, and am SO GLAD I did! It has been much easier to wear for long periods of time than any sling I've tried or the Baby Bjorn/Snuggli style carriers. It is incredibly comfortable for me and my baby, and once you figure out the straps it is not at all difficult to put on. Best of all, at 8 months my daughter was past the weight limit on a Snuggli carrier but is easily fitting (and comfortable to wear!) in a front carry with my Beco. I have also used the Beco with my 2.5 year old and it is actually really comfortable to wear her in a back-carry position. I am so pleased with this carrier, and think that the quality and flexibility of the Beco is definitely worth the price! (Posted on 12/31/10)

Pretty close to perfect. Review by Erin
Price Value Quality I got this carrier for my newborn daughter and she absolutely loves it - she will sleep or just hang out comfortably in it all day as I wear her around the house and out for walks. We have used it for at least a couple of hours every day for the past 2 months.
Positives:
- Because of the fabric between the baby and the wearer's chest, I can carefully transfer the carrier to my husband (or vice versa) without taking our baby out of it. We've been able to do it without even waking her up.
-Newborn insert is included and does not cost extra.
-Very comfortable for baby and parents
-Not too bulky, folds down small.
Negatives:
-I have not figured out how to nurse without taking the carrier off. There is a video describing how, but I find it tricky.
-It does take a minute to get on; my husband and I can both easily put it on without help but we have been laying the baby in the carrier first as demonstrated in the instructions, then picking her and the carrier up together. I tried putting the carrier on first, then putting the baby in, and it did not go well. So, it's not super easy to pop her in and out. Once she is big enough to stop using the newborn insert this will be easier.
Overall we are really happy with this buy and will get tons of use out of this carrier especially for longer periods of wear and long walks and days out. I am considering buying a second carrier (like a ring sling) for really quick outings - like taking the dogs out or running little errands - because it would be nice to be able to take her in and out a bit faster. But maybe I'll get good enough with this one that I'll just stick with it. (Posted on 4/12/12) -
Amazing carrier! Review by Amanda
Quality Price Value I love my Beco! It is very easy to use, but like ANY baby carrier, you need to figure it out and how to put it on properly. Since it is a soft-structured carrier, there are straps that need to be adjusted the first time to make sure it is fitting properly, then very little adjustment is needed. This carrier is great since you put the carrier on first, then put the baby in it, you can also turn them around onto your back very easily. In fact, this is the reason I bought this carrier over others. I didn't feel comfortable with putting my baby on my back while bending over and pulling the carrier overtop... I'm too much of a klutz for that! I didn't get this carrier until my daughter was about 5 months when she grew out of her wrap, so I can't say how it is with a very young baby, but it's been wonderful for our daughter since we got it (she's 13 months now) It is warm for the summer, but almost all carriers are...

I can still carry my 22 lb, 13 month old on my front or back for hours (well, since she's walking she doesn't really want to stay there for that long anymore!). My husband loves using it and my MIL and FIL have used it too! Until you get used to it, (a week maybe) it can take a bit of fiddling to get it comfortable, but I think that's true of any soft-structured carrier. (Posted on 12/15/10)

Loved the Beco Review by Michelle
Price Value Quality I wish we had the Beco earlier on - we only got one when our boy was 6 months, and I loved it from the moment I wore it. We had been through a Moby wrap, a Mei Tai, and a Snuggli, and I didn't find any of them comfortable enough to wear a large baby for any period of time.

The Beco fit me (5'6'') and my husband (6'6'') and was perfect. It rolled up into nothing, and gave good shoulder support, and it balanced the load well. It was very durable. I only wish my toddler was willing to be worn anymore - friends of ours are still using it with their 3 year old. (Posted on 1/4/11)
