What is the concern about Vinyl (PVC) products?
The short answer is that Vinyl (polyvinyl chloride) is a plastic that must contain phthalates in order to create a softer, more flexible finished product. This is where your high school chemistry comes in. These phthalates have been found to outgass, and many studies indicate that this offgassing may contribute to allergies in children, as well as more severe health complications over a longer period of time. Studies on rodents involving large amounts of phthalates have shown damage to the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the developing testes. There are many resources online to learn more about PVC and it's hazards.
Easy to wash, soft and cozy Review by Barbara

I bought this to protect Baby's crib. It's the softest bed liner that I've ever used. No vinyl means no toxic fumes. I love how it stays soft even though it's been washed several times. (Posted on 1/1/11)
Great product Review by Eco Mom

Great product. I use one in the crib and one in my bed for milk leaking and one to change the baby on. I have had many accidents happen when changing her and all is contained and cleans up well. The material is very soft for both of us to use against our skin. Highly recommended. (Posted on 7/8/12)
So Glad We Bought These Review by El

We rely on these mattress pads every night in our family bed. They've saved me from needing to wash our sheets every moment. We bought two so that one can be in the wash. Our baby sleeps on the mattress pad with a receiving blanket on top (more breathable and less hot than the mattress pad alone). It has protected our mattress from leaky diapers, spit-up and breast milk. We have also used this mattress pad for "naked time" during the day. A great product - easy to care for and very practical. I also use the changing pads made of the same materials. (Posted on 10/1/12)
A Must Have Review by Cortney

These are a life saver. I started with just one because I wanted something that was soft but water resistant on one side for laying baby on so I didn't have to change sheets every time she spit up. I quickly ended up buying another because I realized they are also great for ME to sleep on if I wanted to go nursing bra/padless. Even my husband thinks that these are a must have and we have started buying them as our "go to" baby gift.
I should add that I even used them recently with my toddler when he had the flu. A real life saver! If I could afford it I would buy even more! (Posted on 8/25/11)
3 years old and still going strong Review by Shara

I bought this just before my now three year old was born- it's gone from a bassinet pad to travel change pad to potty training (great for putting on the couch when they're not quite there yet) and will shortly be used all over again for our second. The size is perfect for so many things and despite frequent use and many, many washings it's still never leaked.Would you recommend this product to a friend? Without hesitation!
It's definitely not the cheapest waterproof pad you can find, but considering the many uses it can be put to and the quality of the product I'd highly recommend it. (Posted on 2/25/14)
Poor quality at a high price Review by Chelsea

I have used these pads for a couple months now, which were purchased after careful consideration and hours of research. My husband and I ordered them to use in our childs bed at night. We purchased two, and typically washed them every 1-2 days depending on our child's usage. They were washed in warm water in the washing machine and tumble dried on low.Would you recommend this product to a friend? Never
After a month I noticed that on one pad the waterproof layer had seemed to become stuck to itself in one area, causing a little ridge. I didn't sweat this too much although I was a bit surprised. Fast forward two more months to yesterday when my husband suggested that we purchase a few more. Since it's a lot of money for the type of product, I decided to wait until the morning and just make sure the ones i have we're still in good shape.
I'm glad that I did because I just noticed the inside layer of the pads are piling, and have formed quarter sized clumps in between the top and bottom layer! One of the main reasons I purchased these in the first place is that I wanted something cozy for my little one. There is no way that would be comfortable to sleep on. I'm very disappointed as I thought that I was paying for quality by purchasing these.
A message from the bynature.ca family: Thank you for taking the time to review your recent Mattress Pad purchase. I'm sorry to hear you've had a poor experience with them, particularly as you've only had them for 2 months. We have parents that have been using these for years, and have not found the same issues you're experiencing, so this is really strange. Rest assured, you have purchased a quality product. We're extremely confident that our manufacturer will deem this a warranty issue, which comes up once in a blue moon, and we're happy to ensure a satisfactory resolution so you can enjoy your mattress pads again. Thanks for your patience! (Posted on 6/24/13)
